The Global Alliance Against Cholera’s methodology was first developed through the implementation of a program in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This program is used as a best practice model, and accordingly Epidemiology and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene studies are conducted in other cholera-affected regions, with the encouragement of the Alliance.
Previous research projects in the D.R.C. were aimed at understanding the reasons for the recurrence of cholera since its introduction in Africa in 1970. These epidemiological surveys were focused on the origins of the cholera bacteria responsible for the epidemics and its diffusion in the Country.
