Two people died and forty others have been hospitalized. According to the World Health Organization's 2013 weekly epidemiological report, 214 cholera cases have been recorded in Burundi.

The lack of latrines and the use of contaminated water are the main causes of  the cholera reappearance in the country. Despite the Ministry of Public Health and the Red-Cross efforts to contain the epidemic and to promote hygiene measures, the number of cholera deaths keeps increasing.
